What to expect from a fibroid surgery?

fibroid surgery What to expect from a fibroid surgery?

I was having a lot of pain during my menstrual cycles and I finally decided to take care of the situation and consult my doctor about the whole issue. On examination, it was found that I was having fibroids in my uterus. At first, I was a bit confused by the whole issue, as I have always thought of myself as a very fit person, however I was assured that this happens to be a very common thing that happens to women all over the world and I was advised by my doctor to undergo a fibroid surgery to remove them through a keyhole surgery which is very common and simple operation.

Of course, I have always been into fitness regimes and I work with people in the fitness world, therefore it was very important for me to be able to get back on my feet as soon as possible. My doctor mentioned that there could be a different approach to the fibroid surgery given the size of the tumors and that perhaps he will need to do a small C section to make sure that he took away the bigger fibroids that he may not be able to remove with other methods.

This definitely increased my anxiety levels towards the whole fibroid surgery process; however, I was assured that within a week or two I was going to be feeling well enough to go back to doing my fitness programs again.

However, the actual experience of the whole fibroid surgery was something totally new to me. Although there was not too much pain due to the fibroids surgery and the doctors have given me enough pain killers to cope with any kind of discomfort, still there was so much pain when I would think of moving from the bed especially in my abdomen and lower areas of the body. I was glad that I was not in a real hurry to run anywhere, because the body was not in position to take any kind of strenuous movements for some time.

Of course, once I was able to see the doctor again, I mentioned to him about the pain that I was having in my groin area and he mentioned that it is a nerve pain. That during the operation some nerve in that area got affected and that the nerve needed a lot of time to heal. He also gave me some steroids to make sure that I was able to cope with the discomfort and that was a very good option as I could feel the results of the medication almost immediately.

It took me a few days after the fibroid surgery to find the courage to start my daily routines and to move more around the house, however, by the end of the two week period I was getting better at doing all these and more. I was finding myself getting tired easily; however, movement was improving fast.

Since I have been into fitness and yoga for most of my life, it was wonderful to be able to get back to my routine slowly, however, I was still finding that I was getting very tired from the exercises very fast, although the breathing and relaxation exercises were proving to be helpful in the healing process after the fibroid surgery.
