Uterine fibroids are tumours like growths that appear on women at different stages of their lives. However, the symptoms of these growths are not very common and there are many people that are totally unaware that they have any problems at all. The most common symptom of having fibroids is the inability to conceive, and this is only found when the patient consults a doctor for the purpose of infertility. There are a few common symptoms of fibroids and they include the following:
Swelling is one of the symptoms that women suffering from fibroids will experience. For example a woman with fibroids that are growing out of shape may look pregnant and the abdomen will feel hard to the touch. It is also common to have discomfort and pain due to the size of the tumors which can grow out of proportion at times.
Menstrual problems are another very common symptom. All women suffer some kind of menstrual problem from time to time, however, patients having fibroids will have problems with every period that they have and this will include very heavy bleeding that will lead to anemia and very low energy levels as well. Another very common symptom is the spotting in between periods and the periods lasting for more than 6 days. Heavy bleeding is common and so is the appearance of black clots as well.
In elderly women, there are other symptoms that fibroids can cause and they include having periods after having gone through your menopause. This is a symptom that the fibroids are getting out of control and you will need to contract your doctor to see what the best way of handling the situation is.
Back pain is another fibroid symptom. Unusual back pains or pains in the back of the legs are usual because the fibroids may be pressing on nerves that are connecting the uterus to the brain and these nerves travel through the back of the legs and the spinal cord. It is therefore important to take care of these issues if you seem to be having recurrent problems unusual back pains.
Strong pain in the uterus is also one of the most common symptoms of fibroids. It is as if you are going into labor because the system recognizes that they should not be there in the first place and it wants to get rid of them.
Another common symptom of fibroids is the pain in the pelvic area. These pains vary from patient to patient as it depends on the reasons for the pain. Sometimes the tumors are so big that they are pressing on nerves or on other organs and they are creating pain which is constant or which comes and goes depending on your posture.
Another symptom totally related to fibroids is constant need to urinate. Since the fibroid tumor is located in the area, they are not giving the bladder enough space to keep the liquids in your body for natural periods of time and the woman needs to visit the bathroom at more frequent intervals. Urinary tract infections can become common in these cases as well.
Constipation is another symptom of fibroids, depending on the area where the fibroids are located. If they are pressing a part of the intestines, then it is very common for a person to have problems with regular bowel movements. There are other problems that will come with the whole issue and they include painful intercourse, which will affect the relationship of the person suffering from fibroids as well.
