The general effective course may last from 1 to 6 months. The medication is available in 1-month or 3-month injectable doses. The length of therapy may depend on several factors, including:

• The size of your fibroid(s)
• The severity of your symptoms
• The affect on vaginal bleeding
• The timing of additional (surgical) therapy
• The severity of the side effects

Clinical studies have shown the following results:

• Approximately 80% of patients had significantly reduced vaginal bleeding.
• Approximately 60% showed a decrease of 25% in the size of the uterus.
• Approximately 50% of patients had a 25% reduction in the size of the fibroids.
• Pelvic and abdominal pressure was decreased.
• Pelvic and abdominal pain was decreased or relieved.

Am I a candidate for the use of Lupron and similar drugs?

There is a specific guideline to determine if you are a candidate to this type of therapy. You should NOT take this medication if you are:

1. Pregnant
2. Breast-feeding
3. Allergic to any of the ingredients of the Lupron class of drugs
4. Having any abnormal uterine bleeding that has not been definitively diagnosed.
