How Effective And How long is the course of treatment with Lupron?

The general effective course may last from 1 to 6 months. The medication is available in 1-month or 3-month injectable doses. The length of therapy may depend on several factors, including:
- The size of your fibroid(s)
- The severity of your symptoms
- The affect on vaginal bleeding
- The timing of additional (surgical) therapy
- The severity of the side effects
Clinical studies have shown the following results:
- Approximately 80% of patients had significantly reduced vaginal bleeding.
- Approximately 60% showed a decrease of 25% in the size of the uterus.
- Approximately 50% of patients had a 25% reduction in the size of the fibroids.
- Pelvic and abdominal pressure was decreased.
- Pelvic and abdominal pain was decreased or relieved.
Am I a candidate for the use of Lupron and similar drugs?
There is a specific guideline to determine if you are a candidate to this type of therapy. You should NOT take this medication if you are:
- Pregnant
- Breast-feeding
- Allergic to any of the ingredients of the Lupron class of drugs
- Having any abnormal uterine bleeding that has not been definitively diagnosed.
